Italian 1450-1523 Pietro Perugino Galleries Italian painter and draughtsman. He was active in Perugia, Florence and Rome in the late 15th century and early 16th. Although he is now known mainly as the teacher of Raphael, he made a significant contribution to the development of painting from the style of the Early Renaissance to the High Renaissance. Rene-Antoine Houasse
(c. 1645 - 1710) was a decorative French painter. He was a pupil of Charles Le Brun, under whose direction he worked at the Manufacture des Gobelins, and with whom he worked on the decoration of the Château de Versailles. He was the director of the French Academy in Rome from 1699 to 1704. His son was Michel-Ange Houasse, a painter of genre scenes.
Arthur William Devis
(10 August 1762 - 11 February 1822) was an English painter of history paintings and portraits. He was appointed draughtsman in a voyage projected by the East India Company in 1783, under Captain Henry Wilson, in which he was wrecked on the Pelew Islands before proceeding to Canton and thence to Bengal. He painted portraits and historical subjects, sixty-five of which he exhibited (1779-1821) at the Royal Academy.
Felix Auvray
a French historical painter, was born at Cambrai in 1800. He was a pupil of Momal in Valenciennes, and afterwards of Gros in Paris. He exhibited in 1824, 'St. Louis a Prisoner,' and in 1827, 'Gautier de Châtillon defending St. Louis against the Saracens,' now in the Museum of Cambrai; 'St. Paul at Athens,' &c. He died in 1833, in his native city.
